slabbed....
Slabbing is the term used for cutting stones into slices. It's a great way to show off beautiful patterns in the stone. The stone above is rhodochrosite, a neon pink very expensive stone from Argentina.
Caboshons, for jewelry making, as shown on the above right, are made by a further refinement of the slabbing process in which the stones are shaped and the edges ground down.
Slabbing and shaping are also the first step in making beautiful stone boxes, as seen on the right. The stone is slabbed into slices, then cut into exactly sized geometric shapes, and then fitted together.
Slabbing is often the first step of carving stone into other shapes, a few examples of which are spheres, bowls, and decorative shapes...
carved...
carving stones is the work of artists, no matter where that artist lives. Most large scale stone carving workshops are now found in Asia, and when some people find this information out, they feel that these carvers are somehow not artists, but of course this is an incorrect assumption.
Modern stone carving is done with electric equipment, such as saws, drills, and dremel tools. The work these artists do is amazing, see for yourselves...
